The Fertility Network brings together fertility specialists, gynaecologists and allied health professionals who share an interest in reproductive immunology. As Dr Nicholas Lolatgis steps back from clinical practice after four decades, the network exists to train interested clinicians in his clinical approach and to provide the structure that supports them in delivering it. The focus is continuity of care — helping patients with complex fertility journeys remain with a trusted clinician.
Understanding the Approach
What the LOLA Protocol™ and LMIT Pathway involve.
Two elements sit at the centre of the clinical framework taught within the network. Both were developed by Dr Nicholas Lolatgis and are applied by trained, registered practitioners as part of individualised patient care. The summaries below are descriptive and educational only.
The LOLA Protocol™
A structured immunomodulatory protocol
The LOLA Protocol™ is a structured treatment protocol developed by Dr Lolatgis that sets out an approach to selecting and timing immune-modulating medications in reproductive immunology care. Network clinicians are trained to apply it consistently, supported by documentation, monitoring and case review.
Medication framework
A consistent approach to selecting and dosing immunomodulatory medications where indicated.
Cycle timing
Guidance on timing relative to the treatment cycle, including spontaneous conception and natural frozen embryo transfer (NAT-FET).
Monitoring & documentation
Structured monitoring and record-keeping throughout assessment and treatment.
The LMIT Pathway
A specialist immunology testing pathway
The LMIT Pathway is a structured treatment pathway available to participating doctors within The Fertility Network. It combines comprehensive training in reproductive immunology with ongoing operational support, enabling clinicians to confidently assess and manage patients with DQ Alpha gene sharing and other immunology-related factors that may be affecting fertility.
HLA-DQα compatibility
Assessment of HLA-DQ alpha gene compatibility between partners as part of the workup.
Reproductive immunology testing
Specialist immune testing, including interpretation of results to support clinical decisions.
Direct referral pathway
A streamlined referral route to specialist testing for network clinicians.
